Blackboard

Blackboard

The Blackboard Academic Suite is a course management and learning system chosen by Wayne State faculty in 1999 for its full features and ease of use. This Web-based course system delivers all or part of many regularly scheduled University courses; provides a secure location on the Web for course materials, e-Portfolios, and storing and managing files; includes tools for creating and delivering online assessments and surveys and for storing student performance results; enhances teaching and learning; and increases communication and collaboration among students and faculty.

Instructors can post lecture notes, handouts, grades, assignments, and much more - using text-based materials or multimedia. They can conduct live chat sessions and give online assessments. Other features in Blackboard include threaded discussion boards, groups, peer and self-assessment, a performance dashboard, and adaptive release. New features are added regularly to Blackboard in the form of third-party building blocks, all of which are supported by TRC staff.
