University Library System
The Wayne State University Library System consists of:
- five libraries
- an ALA-accredited Library & Information Science Program
- the University's New Media and Information Technology unit
The Wayne State University Library System advances scholarship, student learning and faculty innovation through continuous development of a library that serves as a national model for a research university with an urban teaching and service mission. The Library System is committed to being a national leader in the transition of library collections from print to electronic resources; training librarians in the information age; and offering excellent client services and state of the art technology to library users.
Through the Library System’s New Media and Information Technology (NMIT) unit, over 900 public computers are maintained in six campus locations which allows students, faculty and staff access to library resources, productivity software, e-mail and the internet. NMIT also administers a 24-hour computer support call center for the university community. The classroom experience is also enhanced by NMIT through the design and maintenance of 158 instructor workstations in buildings across campus. These workstations, designed with input from faculty, provide instructors with the latest technology for course presentations.
